Central Jersey Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry to offer classes for EPA Certified Renovators
Effective April, 2010 new EPA requirements will go into effect for contractors working on homes built prior to 1978.
FLEMINGTON, NJ, October 16, 2009 /Trades PR News/ -- Effective April, 2010 new EPA requirements will go into effect for contractors working on homes built prior to 1978. All jobsites must have a "certified renovator" on the site to ensure that any paint that is disturbed in the home is cleaned up according to EPA standards. CPA certified renovators will go through a day long training and exam in order to be in compliance with these new regulations. Penalties for any company that is not in compliance can be as high as $37,000 per day.
This regulation applies not only to contractors but also to specialty contractors. Specialty contractors are defined as painters, plumbers, carpenters, electricians or any trade that disturbs paint in a house. It is estimated that over 300,000 individuals will need to be trained by April, 2010. The Central Jersey chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) will begin offering training in November, 2009.
There is an informational meeting on October 21, 2009 at Mangia Bene in Flemington to review the regulations, who is impacted and the process for certification. Information to register for the event can be found on the website www.cjnari.org.
